\u00e9difice pouvant accueillir les 14\u00a0000 exposants des 34 pays participants.<\/strong><br \/><strong>A un an de l\u2019ouverture , c\u2019est le projet de Joseph Paxton et sa gigantesque serre de fer et de verre qui sera retenu.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/><strong>Joseph Paxton (1803-1865), architecte paysagiste et jardinier en chef des jardins du duc de Devonshire, \u00e0 Ghatsworth avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 de nombreuses r\u00e9alisations \u00e0 son actif. \u00a0La grande serre \u00e0 Ghatsworth\u00a0 \u00e9tait \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque le plus grand b\u00e2timent en verre du monde.<\/strong><br \/><strong>Le Crystal Palace avait des murs jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la hauteur du premier \u00e9tage et \u00e0 partir de l\u00e0 devait \u00eatre tout fer, bois et \u00a0verre.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Dimensions\u00a0: Longueur 564m\u00a0 largeur 124m\u00a0 Hauteur 33m<\/strong><br \/><strong>Le b\u00e2timent comprenait cinq nefs lat\u00e9rales de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 avec 2.8 km de galeries<\/strong><br \/><strong>La superficie totale \u00e9tait de\u00a0 7.5ha, 9,4 ha avec les \u00e9tages.<\/strong><br \/><strong>Emplacement\u00a0: Hyde journal am\u00e9ricain, le New York Tribune avait \u00e9dit\u00e9 peu avant l&rsquo;ouverture de l&rsquo;exposition un article donnant des conseils pour se rendre \u00e0 Londres et profiter de ce premier rassemblement mondial o\u00f9 tous les pays pouvaient pr\u00e9senter leurs derni\u00e8res innovations.<\/strong><br \/><strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-4); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">Le journal avait chiffr\u00e9 le budget n\u00e9cessaire pour se rendre \u00e0 Londres, transport, h\u00f4tel\u2026 soit heurte, nul ne vous pousse; vous vous promenez \u00e0 l&rsquo;aise comme sur le boulevard. Cependant il n&rsquo;y a pas ou presque pas de police et rien qui ressemble \u00e0 de la contrainte : \u00e7\u00e0 et l\u00e0 un policeman vous indique simplement par quel escalier il faut monter, par quel descendre. Vous n&rsquo;entendez aucun bruit de voix et vous ne voyez d&rsquo;agitation nulle part; chacun va o\u00f9 bon lui semble et vit \u00e0 sa guise, car il faut vivre dans ce palais sans fin, si l&rsquo;on veut y voir quelque chose; on y mange, et si l&rsquo;on veut, on y dort. Des glaciers, des p\u00e2tissiers, des restaurateurs, ont fond\u00e9 l\u00e0 de grands \u00e9tablissements. Les gens \u00e9co- nomes, tels que les cultivateurs et les ouvriers, qui composent en grande majorit\u00e9 le public, apportent leurs repas dans leurs paniers. C&rsquo;est une curieuse chose de voir ces bons paysans anglais, en blouses, en bottes de cuir, soigneusement bross\u00e9s, s&rsquo;asseoir aupr\u00e8s des fontaines pour y pr\u00e9parer leur grog, d\u00e9chirer \u00e0 belles dents un morceau de jambon; ils distribuent le luncheon \u00e0 leurs enfants, au milieu de la foule.<\/strong><br \/><strong>Tout ce monde mange en paix, la galerie les inqui\u00e8te si peu ! Ils viennent pour voir, non pour \u00eatre vus : c&rsquo;est justement le contraire en France. Je me souviens que le 4 mai dernier, \u00e0 Paris, pour maintenir l&rsquo;ordre autour des baraques de saltimbanques qui garnissaient les Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es, il y avait, sans exag\u00e9ration
